Season Ticket info released
at 11:44 31 May 2024

"Prices still remain lower than in the 2016/2017 season, Pricing for the 2016/17 season ranged between £853-£584."

Our season ticket prices are still lower then Bournemouth's. Pricing is largely determined by supply and demand, so the smaller the ground in relation to the size of the fanbase, the higher the ticket prices. Demand at St Mary's was also exceptionally high in 2016/17 due to recent success, which is another factor. We begin next season on a high after the Wembley victory so you'd expect most home games to be sold out.

What the Club don't want right now is overheating i.e. demand massively exceeding supply and causing frustration and disaffection in the fanbase, which with last season's ticket prices they probably would have got, and they are not yet anywhere near ready to expand the stadium so prices will be used to regulate demand.

The second tier will be built on the Kingsland, similar to the development at Cardiff City Stadium. It will take the capacity up to around 38,000.

Could Adam Lallana Make A Surprise Return To Southampton
at 20:25 27 May 2024

As a general rule, let's not write players off too soon. If you look at top teams like Real Madrid, they have a lot of players in their 30s, like Modric (38), Rüdiger (31), Alaba (31), Carvajal (32), Courtois (32), Joselu (34) and Kroos (34).

There may be other issues, like injuries, which might not make Lallana a good signing but there is certainly great value to be had in signing players in their 30s if our main aim is to stay up next season. I'd be very happy if we signed 3 or 4 players in that age group, especially a goalkeeper, central defender and striker. Players in their 30s often come on free transfers whereas youngsters usually command big transfer fees. Our most successful years under McMenemy were built on a transfer policy of signing star players towards the end of their careers. He found that was a way we could compete with the top clubs.

First £20m spent from the transfer kitty. Who else.

The first priority has to be a new goalkeeper. Otherwise we are going to see Bazunu back getting us relegated again. The problem is that the Club has invested so much money in Bazunu that I can't see them getting rid of him, even though to nearly every fan, he is an obvious liability.

McCarthy will be staying, I know. Solak appeared to be telling him that when McCarthy went up to receive his medal. But, apart from these playoff games, when he has been very good, let's not forget he has also been a liability for us for many years. His weakness at the near post is known to all Premier League strikers and they will happily exploit it again. Bazunu has been so bad that McCarthy has possibly established himself now as the lesser of the two evils but as soon as he starts making mistakes again, Bazunu will be back. That's why we need a new goalkeeper.

FA Cup 4th Round Ball Numbers
at 10:21 27 May 2024

" As it’s only the playoffs that keep the league entertaining to watch for the typical positions of 5th down to like 12th...... otherwise all these leagues would just end up being the same as the American sports ones from the mid points onwards, as they’re only entertaining for fans for the first half of the year" ?????

The Americans invented playoffs in sport!

It's funny how the image of Leeds has changed during my lifetime. Until Don Revie arrived in the 60s, they were an insignificant club, who'd never won anything and whose greatest ever achievement was that they'd once reached an FA Cup Quarter-final.

That Great Friday Feeling, moving on to Sunday
at 20:33 25 May 2024

Until Don Revie arrived, Leeds' greatest achievement was reaching the quarter-finals of the FA Cup once. It's amazing how much one manager can transform a football club. Even the white kit they'll be wearing on Sunday was his idea because he thought it would make them look like Real Madrid. Their traditional colours were blue and yellow.

They seem to be struggling to offload them. Leeds Live says they are "expected to sell out" by Sunday.

Singing, "Come on you Blacks," wouldn't be right, would it? The kit is mostly dark grey so it should be, "Come on you Darkies."

Can Saints fans step up - again?
at 10:54 21 May 2024

Leeds probably have the loudest away fans in England. So, off the pitch, we'll be doing well to compete with them, but a lot depends on how the game goes. They weren't very loud when we beat them at Elland Road recently.

How massive Leeds fans say they are has been a running joke for years. Whenever anyone posts a picture of a large number of away fans from other clubs, there are always the ironic, "Leeds would have taken more," comments.

The surprising thing is that when you compare Saints' and Leeds' average home gates in recent years there's not a lot between them in spite of Elland Road's bigger capacity.

Leeds have struggled to sell tickets in many years (I've skipped the COVID season).

With our record for signing injury-prone players, I'm surprised we didn't get this one:

Stoke Sign Rotherham Keeper
at 14:28 20 May 2024

Goalkeepers are usually at their best in their 30s but I'm not sure buying a player that age suits our recruitment policy, which is why we ended up with an expensive, unproven youngster like Bazunu.

Our best years came when McMenemy bought Shilton in his 30s and, of course Pompey had their best spell in the modern era when they got David James in his 30s, and he was absolutely brilliant for them.

One I wanted us to buy was the Finnish goalkeeper, Hradecky, who this year, at the age of 34, has reached his absolute peak for Bayer Leverkusen.

Would they take McCarthy pushing Bazunu in his wheelchair in part exchange?

I predict that if a few Leeds fans manage to end up in the middle of 35,000 Saints' fans, they are not going to have either a very good time or a very long one at Wembley. I pity them. But, as you say, it's just a few sad Leeds and Pompey fans trying to stir things online. For those who are desperate, as only 71,000 tickets are being sold by the clubs, there will still be about 20,000 neutral tickets available, many of which will go on sale, either online or outside the ground, and I wouldn't be surprised if a few thousand of them still remain unused, leaving the final attendance short of capacity.
