Friday, 19th Jan 2024 15:24 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes

We all know about the big Championship game being covered by national radio and SKY TV this weekend, that’s Swansea City v Southampton (KO 12:30pm) However, what about the other Swans game which kicks off four hours later.

Swansea City were a wildcard entry in this years Welsh League Cup. They’ve represented our club in such a great way they’ve made it to the final. When you think they are playing against full strength teams from across the league structure (in the main) they’ve done extremely well to get to this point, The £10,000 winners prize money isn’t the issue, these Swansea youngsters want landmarks in their young careers.

We expect manager Anthony Wright to remain loyal to his players some of who are eligible for the Under 18 side. After the semi final win against Cardiff Met Wright stated, “The outcome was really important to us. When we reflect we’ll be pleased and the positives out of it, we’ll be grateful that we’ve got through," said Wright. Remy Mitchell did extremely well in the penalty shootout and were in the final, which was our objective at the start of the competition. The players were asked who wanted to take penalties and they stepped up, they’ve shown how brave they are to do that. This is something we don’t get off enough in academy football, and the boys have stepped up and been so brave. This competition has been brilliant. This is a young group, with an average age of 18. It’s great learning for them. We’ve played against men’s teams in most ties. We’re all so proud that the boys have got through, and that’s what we set out to do."

Semi Final shoot out hero v Cardiff Met, goalkeeper, Remy Mitchell, “There's definitely been more of a buzz in training in the lead up to the final. I think you can tell by that in the changing rooms, it's our number one focus at the moment. We're all looking forward to it, we're getting all the work in now and we'd love nothing more than to lift the trophy on Saturday, it would mean so much to us all. It's been a great journey, we've had some amazing moments in the competition. It's been a good experience, playing senior men's teams has been a fantastic test for us.There's been games where there's been some huge crowds, and that always gives us a boost on the pitch. We all hope there will be a good crowd on Saturday. We'll be expecting a tough game, we're going to have to be on our top game, but I don't think it's anything we can't do."

Watch the Semi Final below.

That will be tested even more in the cup final, TNS ( The New Saints ) have dominated the Welsh league game and come with European experience as well. They are not just used to winning, they demand it. One Dan Williams is in the TNS squad, joining them from the Swans. The game is at Jenner Park , Barry (KO 5:30pm) which is a fair choice and Swansea City fans will be there in decent numbers. The club have a very decent following in that part of Wales, and in recent times that has increased magnificently across east Wales. Especially amongst young football fans.

The game will be screened LIVE on S4C.
