Monk - We Could Still Catch Top Two
Monk - We Could Still Catch Top Two

Garry Monk was in a positive mood for thinking as the Swans prepared for the last two games of the 'regular' season

The Swansea City captain was with his team mates preparing for the weekend trip to Millwall when he stressed the need to think positively and even believe that the unlikely string of results that could see the Swans end in 2nd could happen.

Speaking to the Western Mail, Monk said “I still think we can catch the top two and that’s the way we’ve got to think

“We were talking in training and no-one mentioned the play-offs, we were only talking about the top two.

“I’ve been in football a long time now and I’ve seen a lot of things happen.

“If you were a betting man going into a shop today you would be putting money on us going into the play-offs and you would be silly to put your money elsewhere.

“Norwich are probably favourites because they are in second and it’s for them to, but if Cardiff get a bit of luck as well, that might help them.

“But you never know, funny things can happen in football.

“It’s going to be tough because you are asking for near-on a miracle.

“You look at their run-ins on paper and you expect them to pick up the points.

“But if we can win this Saturday and those results go for you who knows what can happen with the pressure of the last day of the season.

“The difference will be that we are not under pressure and they will be under pressure to perform.

“It’s nice (to have secured a place) and a couple of years ago we would have been glad just to be in the play-offs,” said Monk. “But we want more.

“We’ve moved on again as a club even from the last couple of seasons. With the gaffer coming in it’s taken us onto another level and we want more.

“It’s going to be a difficult game on Saturday against Millwall because they have still got a chance.

“We can’t just roll up there all relaxed thinking we’ve got a play-off place, we’ve got to keep pushing.

“If you look at the last couple of away games we have gone a long way to putting some things right.

“We’ve gone someway to proving to ourselves that you don’t just become a bad team.

“If we did come across Millwall in the play-offs it is important psychologically that they don’t have an advantage of us. That has to be the motivation for us going down there on Saturday.

“We have to show them why were are in the play-offs and why we have been up there challenging all season."
