In a perfect world I'd like to see Howe, Thorniley, Sarkic and Lubala go out on loan.

Think we need one CB (Maybe two if Ballard goes back to Arsenal) and two forwards who can play central.

However the Jan transfer window is usually difficult, more so this time with Covid, salary caps and squad numbers.

And the situation with back up keepers -

Do keepers count as part of the 22 man squad? I'm pretty sure they do.

Therefore, we'd either have to sign one or keep a squad place open so we could get an emergency loan.

I may get round to it next week.

This'd be a starting point for signing any central striker. The list needs sifting through with a bit of research:

Then there's the option of prem academy players who are struggling to break into their first teams.

Sometime it is better to run with what you have and plan for the future.

Better to concentrate on development players for next season.

We've got some good players now and only need a slow turn over to keep the squad fresh.

1 / 2 signings each transfer window needed.

Starting with a new central attacker.

The funny thing is, the ideal player for us is the one we all hoped Joe Nuttall would, and unfortunately will never, be.

Such a shame for all concerned.

Blackpool could play some part in the January sales

Neil Critchley admits there are likely to be some ins and outs at Blackpool in the January transfer window but says nothing is imminent.

The window is now officially open, meaning that the Seasiders have the next few weeks to complete any deals.

Following a hectic summer that saw 17 players arrive and a further 21 depart, Blackpool are unlikely to be too busy.

Nevertheless, Critchley is still keen to strengthen and there are likely to be a handful of additions and departures.

“We’ve been having conversations for a number of weeks. There’s nothing imminent but it’s an unpredictable market, January is very unpredictable,” Critchley told The Gazette.

“We had a conversation on Thursday morning about it. I wouldn’t expect a massive amount of business in January like there has been in previous windows, hence the reason we did a lot of work in the summer.

“I’d be lying if I said we weren’t looking at ins and outs, one or two in or one or two out. There might be something.

“We’re looking at areas of the pitch where we feel as though we could improve for the second half of the season — but that’s our job, you’d be expecting us to do that.”

With only two recognised strikers on the books in Gary Madine and Jerry Yates, a lot of Pool fans have speculated that another number nine could be high on the agenda.

Critchley says that isn’t necessarily the case as they have a number of attacking players who can fill in.

“I think we’ve got a lot of attacking players and a lot of attacking options within the squad,” he added.

“You’ve only got to look at Bez (Lubala), Sullay (Kaikai), Keshi (Anderson), Kempy (Dan Kemp) and Demetri Mitchell can also play on the wing.

“There’s Oliver Sarkic and Ben Woodburn who are both still here.

“We’ve got a lot of attacking options, it’s about finding the right balance and finding the right solution to the team that we’re playing against.

“I still think we’ve got a strong squad, but we are looking.”

One deal that is likely to be completed is the extension of Dan Ballard’s loan, which is due to expire this month.

The 21-year-old has been an important player for the Seasiders so far this season, despite his game time being limited by injury, suspension and international call-ups.

Nevertheless, the Arsenal loanee — who has made 12 appearances in all competitions — has still managed to leave a lasting impression on Pool fans.

Critchley is hoping that the defender’s spell with the club will be extended “very shortly”.

“We’ve been speaking to Arsenal and the agreement is quite close,” Pool’s head coach said.

“Arsenal are happy for him to stay, Dan wants to stay as well, so we’re hoping to conclude that very shortly.”

THE IRONIC THING

There's one player we need to galvanise the team. A centre forward and good ones don't come cheap.

IMO, the sad thing is that the ideal spearhead for us is a player we have but will never have.

A player we all hoped he would become if he had ever fulfilled his potential, but never will.

A physical, strong running dribbler, good touch, bags of class, back-to-goal as well as run-the-channels, aerial ability, an eye for goal striker. All the things he could have and now will never be.

Destiny says he could have been a bit of a Shearer but he tripped up along the way.

Joe Nuttall.

FFS Joe. Why?

He could've had everything.

What with him catching the corona virus and a couple of other things, Wooburn's not been able to settle.

He's got plenty of competition for a starting berth in that area of the pitch and therefore he needed to hit the ground running.

Because we've got other decent players in that position, a loan would better serve a different type of player. Central striker perhaps.

Woodburn seems to still need game time. Every time he's played so far, it seems the game is just a bit too quick for him. Problem is Kaikai and Lubala are both badly out of form at the moment.

Rangers and Tottenham outbid by Blackpool but player to have final say in transfer race - Journalist

Blackpool have outbid Rangers and Tottenham for Kyle Joseph but the player will ultimately decide where his future lies, according to Alan Nixon.

Joseph is a highly-rated Scotland U19 international currently plying his trade with EFL League One club Wigan Athletic.

The Gers were recently linked with a pre-contract move for the striker [Sun on Sunday via Glasgow Live] and Nixon’s comments on Twitter have shed more light on what appears to be a three-horse transfer race.

The Sun journalist claims that Joseph turned down an offer from Tottenham in the summer in order to stay with the Latics and receive playing time.

It’s believed that Spurs have renewed their interest but that, perhaps surprisingly, it’s third-tier club Blackpool who currently have the best deal on the table.

A move to Bloomfield Road is undoubtedly the least glamorous option, but with cash-strapped Wigan likely keen to receive the highest possible fee for their asset and Joseph appearing to place plenty of importance on his playing prospects, the Seasiders look to be in a strong position.

Neither Rangers or Tottenham are likely to be able to give playing guarantees, but both offer top-class facilities and the carrot of European football.

Rangers are currently well-stocked at the top end of the pitch, but the club could finally cash in on Alfredo Morelos in the summer, while 38-year-old Jermain Defoe is coming towards the end of his playing career.

Joseph has scored four goals in 13 senior appearances for Wigan, with three of those coming in a dramatic 4-3 away win over Burton Albion last month.
