Match Facts

Blackpool have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 4 home matches against Northampton in all competitions.

Blackpool have won their last 3 home matches against Northampton in all competitions.

Blackpool have scored at least 2 goals in their last 3 home matches against Northampton in all competitions.

Blackpool are undefeated in their last 5 home matches (League One).

Northampton have failed to win their last 5 away matches (League One).

Prediction

Blackpool were enduring a difficult run post-Christmas, but their thumping victory over Wigan in midweek left the Lancashire side nine points above relegation, which is the same distance from the top-six. Remarkably, following five consecutive away matches, this is Blackpool's first League One fixture at Bloomfield Road since 15 December.

Meanwhile, Northampton are still within touch of the relegation-zone, although their point at Fleetwood on Saturday ensured they remain one point above the bottom-four. The Cobblers have already managed three victories on their travels this term, but have lost on each of their previous three visits to Bloomfield Road, and 10 of their last 12 (W1 D1).

Form Guide

Blackpool: LLDDLW

Blackpool will be looking for a repeat result of the 0-5 League One triumph against Wigan Athletic.

For Blackpool, the scorers were Marvin Ekpiteta (40'), Jerry Yates (42'), Matty Virtue (53') and Ellis Simms (87', 91').

It’s been a rare occasion in recent games where Blackpool have kept a clean sheet. The reality is that The Seasiders have seen their defence breached in 5 of their previous 6 matches, giving up 8 goals on the way.

Coming into this contest, Blackpool are unbeaten in their last 5 home league matches.

Northampton Town: LWDLLD

Last time out, Northampton Town drew 0-0 in the League One tie with Fleetwood Town.

The forward players for Northampton Town have suffered from a shortage of goals in their past 6 clashes, netting the disappointing return of only 4. In those fixtures, The Cobblers have also seen the collective goal tally against them equal 9. Nevertheless, we will just have to wait and see if such a trend might be replicated here in this game or not.

Looking at the pre-match facts, Northampton Town:

- have not beaten Blackpool in games played away from home for the previous 3 matches in the league.

- haven’t won away from home in the past 3 league games.

Head to head

Looking at their most recent head to head clashes dating back to 18/01/2003 tells us that Blackpool have won 3 of them and Northampton Town 2, with the tally of drawn matches being 1.

A total of 17 goals were yielded between them during those clashes, with 10 of them for The Seasiders and 7 being from The Cobblers. That is an average goals per game value of 2.83.

The last league fixture between the two was League One match day 36 on 10/04/2018 which ended up with the score at Blackpool 3-0 Northampton Town.

The referee was Chris Sarginson.

Team News: Blackpool

Blackpool manager Neil Critchley will be happy not to have any fitness worries to speak of coming into this match owing to a completely injury-free squad to choose from.

Team News: Northampton Town

Owing to a completely healthy squad available to select from, Northampton Town manager Keith Curle doesn’t have any fitness concerns at all ahead of this match.

Prediction

We’re of the view that Blackpool look likely to score more than once when they come up against Northampton Town, who could well find it tough finding the net themselves.

We’re therefore expecting to see a controlled 2-0 victory for Blackpool when all’s said and done.

Preview: Northampton Town (H)

Blackpool host Northampton Town on Tuesday evening in the first league match at Bloomfield Road of 2021.

The Seasiders come into the match on the back of an emphatic 5-0 victory at Wigan Athletic last time out — the first time Blackpool have scored five goals since a victory over Bradford City by the same scoreline in April 2018.

With only three league matches played so far this calendar year due to postponed matches, Blackpool come into Tuesday’s night’s fixture in 15th place — nine points off of the play-offs, though they do have games in hand over many of the sides in the division.

Northampton gained promotion to League One in the summer, defeating Exeter City 4-0 in the League Two Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium. Since their promotion, Keith Curle’s side have struggled for consistency, and sit just outside the relegation zone by a single point.

Despite their lowly league position, the Cobblers have picked up six victories so far this season, including three away wins. Keith Curle’s side have defeated the likes of Gillingham, Wigan Athletic and Fleetwood Town this campaign.

Team News:

Blackpool could be boosted by the return of several players from self-isolation, following recent positive coronavirus tests. Long term absentees Keshi and Anderson and CJ Hamilton remain sidelined.

Mickel Miller, Jack Sowerby and Alan Sheehan are likely to be missing for Northampton.

Last Time We Met:

Blackpool scored three goals to secure all three points in a comprehensive 3-0 victory over the Cobblers at Bloomfield Road in April 2018.

Armand Gnanduillet, Sean Longstaff and Jimmy Ryan’s goals secured the win, with Northampton not picking up anything from Bloomfield Road since a 2-1 win back in March 2002.

The Key Player: Sam Hoskins

Sam Hoskins is one of Northampton’s longest serving players, having joined the Cobblers in August 2015 from Barnet. Since his move, the 27-year-old has made more than 200 appearances, scoring 36 goals in the process.

Hoskins is the Club’s top scorer so far this season, along with Harry Smith, who have four goals each.

Neil Critchley:

“Northampton did exceptionally well last season to get promoted at Wembley Stadium. Keith Curle has done a magnificent job in his time there, and has brought that into League One this season.

“We’re at home though, and it’s up to us to impose our game on them as we look to gain another three point to our tally.”

Keith Curle:

“We’ve got 23 cup finals to play and we are looking forward to every single one of them.

“Every point that is available we are going to compete for. You can’t pick and choose your games and we are going to give it absolutely everything in these 23 games.”

Whether it's by circumstance or design, I'm happy we're trying to find a way to play without Madine.

He's very good at what he does but more or less obliges the rest of the team to fall into the way he plays.

We've got to find more effective ways of scoring goals and winning matches.
