Pompey squad unscathed after squad members represent their countries
Wednesday, 22nd Nov 2023 18:26 by Pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey appear to have come through the international break unscathed - with only two first-team squad members seeing serious action for their countries.

But there is no news yet on whether the injury that kept Paddy Lane out of action for Northern Ireland will affect his availability for the Blues.

Of the four Pompey men who were called into their nations' squads, three got on the pitch - but one of those is currently not at Fratton but out on loan.

The club's official website gave an update on how the Pompey internationals had fared.

Kusini Yengi: The striker made his Australia debut from the bench in Australia's World Cup qualifier against Bangladesh in Melbourne. They were already 6-0 up when he replaced Brandon Borrello on 72 minutes and went on to secure a comprehensive 7-0 victory. Yengi then remained on the bench for the Socceroos as they beat Palestine 1-0 in Kuwait a few days later.

Terry Devlin: The midfielder received a first call-up to the Northern Ireland senior squad to replace injured Pompey team-mate Paddy Lane. But the 20-year-old remained on the bench for Michael O'Neill's side in their 4-0 Euro 2024 qualifying defeat in Finland. Devlin was then released to the under-21s and started their 3-0 loss to England at Goodison Park.

Haji Mnoga: The defender – who is currently on loan at Aldershot – won a couple more caps for Tanzania as they began their World Cup qualifying campaign. The Taifa Stars won 1-0 in Niger, but followed that up with a 2-0 defeat at home to Morocco.

Joe Morrell: The midfielder stayed on the bench for Wales as they played out 1-1 draws with Armenia and Turkey. Those results saw Rob Page's side miss out on automatic qualification for next summer's European Championship in Germany. But they will have a second chance via the play-offs, with a home semi-final against either Finland, Iceland or Ukraine.
